TUITION & FEES

 

Registration Fee

All members are expected to pay a registration fee, which varies based on class requirements. This one-time fee covers the first month's tuition, required hula pā‘ū (for wāhine: keiki, ‘ōpio, kupuna), and learning documents. Students are responsible for providing their own three-ring binder. Hālau t-shirts are available for purchase individually through our hālau shop.

Fees are as follows: 

Wāhine (keiki and ‘ōpio): $100

Kāne (keiki and ‘ōpio): $100

Monthly Tuition 

$50 per haumāna

ʻOhana Discount after the 2nd keiki, $25 per haumāna

Required Attire

All students are required to wear hālau uniform and bring the following at every class: 

* Hālau T-shirt

* Hula Pāʻū (wāhine)

* Hula Shorts (kāne)

*3 Ring Binder (Oli/Mele Documents)

* Water Bottle

Wāhine are required to wear hula pā‘ū to every class session. Hula pā‘ū are to be purchased through Paoakalani Hula Hālau only. 

Being that this will be provided at registration, there will be a charge of $50 for additional hula pā‘ū if lost or misplaced.   

 

Attendance

Attendance is not merely an option; it's a steadfast commitment. Given the program's nature, stringent policies are in effect. If a student accumulates 8 absences within a span of 3 months, whether excused or unexcused, they will be placed on a 3-month probation period before resuming their hula participation. This policy ensures the integrity of our program and the commitment of all participants.

Payment Methods

Our hālau uses Wave Accounting Services for Hula Tuition and other payments; however, These include all purchases; classes, practice attire, costumes, workshops, private sessions, etc. 

*Be sure to note the student and month or reason why you're rendering payment.

4) Checks payable to Kalani Hiapo.

* Pule Wehe/Opening Prayer (Cultural Alignment)

* Basic Full Body Stretch

* Hula Basics: Learning & Strengthening Foundational Footwork and Hand Gesture placement.

* Mele Hula:

1) Learn History, Native Language and Meaning/Purpose behind Hawaiian chant, song, or music.

2) Learn/Rehearse choreographed dance set to Hawaiian folk music. 

* Pule Ho'oku'u/Closing Prayer (Cultural Alignment)

 

NOTE: The pule or prayer serves the purpose of establishing cultural alignment and fostering a centered mindset for the learning space. It follows a format reminiscent of a Christian prayer but does not involve invoking, praising, or worshiping of any kind. The objective is to create a simple spiritual connection that promotes a pono, or balanced, state of mind before and after each class.
